We got to know her 40 years ago as a sweet, friendly and very hospitable lady.
We were often in Sussex and we always kept in touch. Just 2 years ago we had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with her again at her home in Sussex.
We wish Jan and the children a lot of strength and think back to Nellie with a smile.

Sincere condolences to the de Winter family. Mrs. de Winter was a very lovely person. My Dad worked at Glendale and they would have a picnic for all. She seem to love every child there. Later Dad worked at MMH and did a little photography work for Mr de Winter when he became unable to work. Whenever she would come in the store where I worked she was always pleasant and smiling. A great loss for us all.

What a beautiful lady Nellie deWinter was! I will never forget one of our first meetings when I was employed at MMH Prestige Homes in late 70’s fresh out of college when she scolded me for putting TWO teabags in her husband’s tea saying, in her thick Holland accent , “Are you trying to poison my husband?” To this day I am not sure if she was kidding or not. I remember the story of why she hated cats ( because some kittens got on her skirt as a little girl and she tried to swing around to get them off and couldn’t). The deWinter family was like my extended family for the years I worked for John. They were the BEST years of my life and I have so many fond memories of Nellie and her well loved family. John and Nellie were a huge part of our lives growing up and basically family. It was a common scene to see Mom, Dad, John and Nellie at the kitchen table engaged in some competitive round of cards every Friday night. Nellie was an amazing woman and always so interested in my life and my sisters Carrie and Shelley. Nellie’s Olibollen was a Christmas treat we looked forward to every year. My Children spent many visits with my parents who they called Oma and Opa and spent so much time with Nellie and John that it wasn’t long before my children lovingly called them Opa John and Oma Nellie. Nellie was always a role model to me as a mother and I only hope to live up to her family values. Nellie also started me on the road to fashion whenI she gave me a Simon Chang dress she didn't want anymore when I was 13 and it was a prized possession. To John and all the de Winters I send sympathies from Larry, Maddy, Stone and I and also our thanks at having been part of her life. ❤️
