Obituary of Hugh Alexander Sparks
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Hugh Alexander Sparks on September 12, 2013 at the age of 83, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a brief period of declining health. He was born on July 27, 1930 in Ripples, NB, to Alexander and Violet Sparks (nee MacLean), but lived most of his life in Saint John, NB, where he worked as a welder on many construction sites, including Point Lepreau, as well as the building of the frigates. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed many a day fishing from the dock at his daughter’s cottage in Crawford Lake. In the winter, he couldn’t wait for hockey to start, and loved the Maple Leafs. He lived the last few years of his life at Yvonne’s Special Care Home in Titusville, where he was much loved by all the excellent staff, especially Cheyanne, who put a twinkle in his eye, and he loved to tease. He was predeceased by his wife, Doreen Mildred, as well as by his sister, Dorothy Gray. He is survived by his five children: David (Sheila) of Waterford, Cheryl Ward (Brian) of Sussex, Janet Grass (Richard) of Crawford Lake, Timmy (Evelyn) of Moncton, Todd (Jerrie) of Elmsdale, NS; 8 grandchildren: David Easton, Jennifer and Jeffrey Sparks, Rebecca and Steven Grass, Hillary Sparks, and Tyler & Sara Sparks; 4 great-grandchildren: Justin, Jonathan, Maggie and Emilee; his 5 brothers and sisters, as well as by his several nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home (506) 433-2133. A private family service will be held at Adair’s Wilderness Lodge on Wednesday September 18, 2013 at 2:00 pm, after which a graveside service will be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens in the near future. To honor the love Dad had for animals, donations can be made to the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue League, or the charity of ones’ choice. On-line condolences are available at: www.sussexfh.com
