The death of Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Smith of Sussex occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on October 13, 2006 at the age of 78. Born at Sydney, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, she was the only child of the late John Dan and Catherine Elizabeth (Campbell) Gillis. Betty is survived by her husband of 51 years, C. Cameron Smith, daughter Catherine E. Smith (Steven Berntsen) of Montreal, son J. Gillis Smith (Rachel M.) of Newcastle, NB and grandsons Matthew and Daniel Maxham of Montreal. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9PM. The funeral service will be held Monday October 16, 2006 at St. Paul’s United Church, Sussex at 2PM. Commital service will be at the Union Protestant Cemetery, Port Hood, Cape Breton on Tuesday October 17 at 2PM.
