Obituary of Murray William Hawkes

It is with great sadness that we, as a family, announce the death of Murray William Hawkes of Waterford, NB, who passed away at the Sussex Health Center on March 16th, 2017. Murray was the son of the late William and Mary (Chambers) Hawkes and husband of the late Eileen (Fanjoy) Hawkes who passed away in 2013. Murray was a devoted father to Philip Hawkes of Waterford and Carolyn Floyd (Bill) of Saint John; a loving grandfather to Alison (Ryan) and Andrew Floyd; brother to Mary Patterson (Albert) of Carsonville as well as several nieces, nephews, his girls he loved so much: Lindsay, Florence and Heather as well as the many friends Murray made throughout his life. Besides his parents and his beloved wife, Murray was predeceased by his daughter Marilyn Hawkes and his infant son David; his brothers: Robert, James, Roland, Harry and Garnett; his sisters: Doris and Marjorie. Murray was a farmer who took great pride in his work. He also was involved in his community finding time to help out when needed. His faith and his Church were very important to him and he served as Church Warden for St. John the Evangelist Church, the Vestry, as a Sunday school teacher and the Waterford Community Group. He loved children and especially his two precious grandchildren. Murray was a member of the Orange Lodge LOL #67, a member of the Kings East PC Association. He and Eileen attended and organized community suppers, card parties, 50 plus and charity bingo. He loved his family and will leave them a legacy of love and kindness. Arrangements are in the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, NB (506) 433-2133 from where visitation will be held on Sunday, March 19th from 1-5pm. There will be an Orange Lodge tribute held at 12:45pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 20th, 2017 at 11:00am with Canon Allen Tapley presiding in the St. John the Evangelist Church in Waterford. Interment will be held in the St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in the spring. Donations to the St. John the Evangelist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
