Obituary of Donald Hayes

Donald (Don) Hayes passed away August 20, 2017 at the Sussex Health Centre at the age of 80.

Don was the son of the late Harmon and Helen (Cosman) Hayes. Don graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1953 and spent his life in communications, with Canadian Marconi, NB Tel and retired from Teleglobe Canada in 1992. He enjoyed travel and during winter vacation discovered a passion for shuffleboard and was an enthusiastic music fan of the local talent.

Don is survived by his wife Carole (Stewart) Hayes; daughter Kim Wyles, Sussex; sons: Dwayne (fiancée, Juliana Taylor) of Toronto and Sheldon of Cornwall, On; grandchildren: Nigel (Melissa) Wyles, Zachary (Natasia) Wyles, Zoe Hayes (fiancée, Josh Overdulve); great grandchildren: Lyrik, Kellyn, Scarlett and Norah Wyles; sisters: Carol (Carl) Murray, Faye Smith, Linda Bulmer; brother Elwyn (Patsy); sisters-in-law: Shirley Hayes, Pauline Muir, Shirley Howe and Celia Seymour as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Don predeceased by brothers Lawrence and Nelson and brother-in-law Melvin Smith.

Arrangements are in the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, NB (506) 433-2133. In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 24th, 2017 at 1:00pm at Lester Cemetery with Rev Douglas Cosman conducting the service. Following the service there will be a time of fellowship at the Berwick Hall.
