Obituary of Walter Murray

Murray, Walter Stuart “Stuie”, 89, of Sussex Corner passed away on August 25, 2012 at the Sussex Health Center. Born in Penobsquis, he was a son of the late Walter and Alberta (McQuinn) Murray. Stuie was a World War II veteran with the 408 Squadron, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 20. He coached Sussex Minor Hockey for over 20 years; he was an avid hunter and golfer, and was one of the main organizers for the development of the Sussex Golf and Curling Club. He was a member of the Penobsquis Baptist Church, and was a volunteer for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. Stuie loved picking fiddleheads and mushrooms, and playing cribbage and forty-fives. He worked for over 50 years with Metropolitan Life. Stuie is survived by his children: Bette Fraser (John) of Mount Hebron, Dale Murray of Salt Springs, James Murray (Wendy) of Picadilly, and Jane McLaughlin (Fred) of Sussex Corner; and by their mother, Jean Murray. Stuie is also survived by his brothers: Jack Murray of Sussex, David Murray of Halifax, and Clifford Murray (Ethelyn) of Penobsquis; his sister, Elizabeth Pickel of Virginia; his grandchildren: Ashley McLaughlin, Jacob McLaughlin, Brett Murray (Melissa), Neva Crandlemere (Zane), Stephanie Hall (Sean), Robbie Titcomb, Mitchell Murray, Cory Murray, and Madison Murray; great-grandchildren: Carter Murray, Zachery Murray, Garrett Crandlemere, Autumn Crandlemere, Isaac Hall and Evan Hall; and by his special friend, Germaine. Besides his parents, Stuie was predeceased by his grandsons, Marcus and Phillip McLaughlin; his granddaughter, Lindsay Lee Titcomb; his sister Nellie Bustin; and his brother, Donald Murray. Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 29, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm; the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 20 will be holding a tribute service at 5:45 pm, all in Sussex Select Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex. The funeral service will be held on Thursday August 30, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Penobsquis Baptist Church with Rev. Neville Gosman presiding. Interment will be held in the Cardwell Cemetery.
