Obituary of Merton C. Stewart

Merton Charles Stewart of Sussex and formerly of Searsville, loving husband of the late Lucy Bella Stewart, passed away at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on September 10, 2014. Born on May 6, 1933, he was a son of the late Robert and Emma (nee Ward) Stewart. Mert was a truck driver for most of his life, finishing his career working for the Department of Transportation in Sussex. He coached hockey when his children were younger and he spent time skidooing. Mert liked to putter around in his garage and around the house but what he loved most were his Chevy trucks. He leaves to mourn his sons: Guy (Lola) of Cambridge Narrows and Dave (Nancy) of Searsville; his grandchildren: Michael, Ryan, Samantha, Jeremy and Alex; great-grandson Brandon; sisters: Cecelia Seymour, Pauline Muir, Shirley Howe and Carole Hayes; daughter-in-law Tracy Stewart; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friend Nina Smith. Besides his parents and wife, Merton was predeceased by his son Earle Stewart; his grandson Jesse Stewart; and his brother Ward Stewart. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex (506) 433-2133. As per Merton’s request there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at the Berwick Wesley Cemetery on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 1:00pm with Pastor Kevin Vincent presiding. Following the service there will be a reception at the Berwick Hall. Donations to the Kiwanis Nursing Home or Parkinson’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
