Obituary of Cecil Alexander Moore

Moore, Cecil Alexander, 87, of Tidnish, NS, and formerly of Sussex, passed away on September 1, 2010 at the Cumberland Regional Hospital in Amherst, NS. Born October 26, 1922 in Apohaqui, he was a son of the late Annie (McKnight) and Clark Moore. Cecil worked at Jones’ Mill, joining the Royal Canadian Navy at age 16. He was a veteran of WW II as a gunner on the HMS Restigouche. He returned to Sussex with his wife Annie and their son Gerald in 1945. Cecil was very active in the following community organizations: he was a member of St. Paul’s United Church, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branches # 20 & # 10, the Pythian Sisters Branches # 22 & # 6, the Knights of Pythias Branch # 11, the Nomads of Abrudaka Branch # 21 and the ADILA Temple # 157. Cecil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who entered his home. He was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed. He was predeceased by his son Gerald in April of 1952, by his wife, Annie C. (Goss) Moore of Bell Island, NFLD, and by his grandson Andrew McGovern. He is survived by his children: William “Bill” and Janice Moore of Gibbons, AB, Nowell and Rod Kyle of Roachville, and Patricia McGovern of Dartmouth, NS; his second wife of 13 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Fraser) (Porter) Moore of Tidnish, NS; her daughters: Faye Porter (Ken Fowlie) of Cardinal, ON, and Deanna (Alec) Bishop of Niagara Falls, ON; grandchildren: Gerald McGovern (Teresa), Jeff McGovern, Neal McGovern (Annie), Tracey Middleton (Keith), Shaun Kyle (Melissa), Karlia Grant (Bob); step-granddaughter, Raya Donkin (John Terris); ten great-grandchildren; brother, Stewart Moore; sister Kathleen Henry both of Apohaqui; brother Gordon Moore (Mary) of Bible Hill, NS; brother Jim Moore (Donna) of Moncton; sister Jean Smith (George) of Gander, NFLD as well as by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm; the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 20 will be holding a tribute service on Sunday at 6:45 pm, all in Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 pm in St. Paul’s United Church, Sussex with Rev. Scott Hillier presiding. Interment will be held in Riverbank Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 20 on Magnolia Avenue, Sussex following the interment.
