Hudson Victor Murphy, 93, of Quispamsis and formerly of Sussex, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 9, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Perry’s Point, he was a son of the late Leonard and Dorothy (nee Blanchard) Murphy, and husband to the late Katie Murphy (nee Morrell) who passed away in 2001. Hudson taught high school in Sussex from 1946 until his retirement in 1982. He is survived by his 2nd wife, Christena (Creighton) Murphy; his children: William “Bill” Murphy (Colleen) of Sussex, Jean Cunningham (Jim) of Picadilly, Robert "Bob" Murphy of Alberta, and Carol Thorne (Marc) of Sussex; his step-daughter Linda Waterston of Dutch Valley; his brother Gerald Murphy (Bernice) of Lantz, NS; his grandchildren: Sean Murphy, Heather Richter (Michael), Denise Dunn (Jason), Julie Matthews (Rob), Shannon Stevens, Katie McAllister (Adam), Chelsey Murphy, Michael Thorne, and Drew Thorne (Michelle); thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as many other extended family members and friends. Hudson was predeceased by an infant brother Harold. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex (506-433-2133) from where visitation will be held on Sunday, March 12th, from 1:30 to 5:30pm. A private funeral service celebrating Hudson’s life will be held. Interment will be held in Kirk Hill Cemetery at a later date.
