SCOTT, David Melrose “Mel” CD of Markhamville, NB passed onto eternal peace on September 17, 2009 at the Sussex Health Centre at the age of 70. Melrose was born at Norton, NB, the only son of the late Merle Helena (Hosford) and Herbert Melrose Scott. He is survived by his wife Carol Kathleen (Parlee) Scott, daughter Dawn (Terry) Mullin, South Esk, NB, sons David (Shelley) Scott, Sussex, Shawn Scott, Red Deer, AB and Andrew Scott, Lower Newcastle, NB, stepdaughters Judy (Harry) Booth, Cassidy Lake and Donna (Paul) Secord, Penobsquis, grandchildren; Mark, John and Tyler Mullin, Ryan, Brianna and Cameron Scott, Mitchell and Wyatt Vail, Kristen and Carly Booth and Jesse Secord, sister Enid MacDonald, Searsville, three aunts and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, brother-in-law Ronald MacDonald, two aunts and all of his uncles. Mel served with the 8th (PL) NB Hussars (4CPL) from 1954-1957, the NBNSR (WO 1980) both Army Reserve Units prior to and after a career with the RCAF/CAF. Mel began his working career at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Sussex (1956-1957), when he joined the RCAF in November 1957. He retired with the rank of Sergeant in 1979. He went into mining in 1980 at Heath Steel Mines as a hard rock miner, rising to Shift Supervisor until the mine closed in 1983. Later in 1983, he commenced employment at PCA Potash Mine at Penobsquis and retired in 2004. As a member of the RCAF (later CAF), Mel always served with the Air Element of the CAF and had tours of duty with NATO and the United Nations in France, Germany, Egypt and four province within Canada. He travelled extensively in Europe and the Holy Lands. He served as a member of Queen Elizabeth’s Honour Guard when she visited PEI in 1959. Mel was a well decorated Airman and received the Air Commander’s Commendation in recognition of outstanding service, for continuously demonstrating superior performance in the conduct of his military and civic responsibilities, regardless of where he was stationed. He held tremendous pride in having served his country, especially with the RCAF/CAF Air Element. He strived to do his best, whether it was in the bank, Service, Mining or working in the wood for himself, which he enjoyed. He was proud of his family and valued true friends. He was a member of Knox United Church, Markhamville. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Friday from 5-9PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday September 19, 2009 at 2:00PM at St. John’s United Church, Sussex Corner. Interment will be at Trinity Cemetery, Sussex Corner.
