Joan Elizabeth Archibald (Parlee) was born in Waterford NB, on November 27, 1934. She was the sixth child born to Edward and Helen (nee Carr) Parlee. Joan loved the art of story telling and often told stories of life in Dutch Valley and being part of a large family. Perhaps you have heard similar stories of walking five miles to school in snow up to your waist, hauling water, chopping wood and that it was so cold in the house you could not see out of the window. Despite the hardships these stories were told by her with love and a pride in belonging to this strong family. She recited them by heart and once she started it was best to have a comfortable chair because she never tired of talking about her family. Joan was blessed with three brothers: Elmer, Jim, and Malcolm and six sisters: Margaret, Eleanor, Phyllis, Mary Fern, Ruth and Connie.
