Obituary of Evelyn Mae Robertson
With heavy hearts, the family of Evelyn Mae Robertson (nee Hall), announce her death which took place on October 14th , 2014 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, NB. She was born December 26, 1928 to Ted and Lottie Hall in Kedron (Penobsquis), and later moved to Norton. She was the eldest of five children, and attended Norton Consolidated School, graduating in 1945. Following high school, she worked in Ottawa for the Department of National Defense and in Saint John for MRA’s Department Store. Evelyn returned to Norton to care for her ailing mother. She married her childhood playmate Leonard Robertson in Norton on March 6, 1948. Her life and happiness revolved around her family upon whom she bestowed compassion, selflessness and unconditional love– After raising her children, Evelyn returned to work at Gillies Boys and Girls Wear, the Mercantile Children’s Wear and MacAfee’s Drug Store. She loved her home, gardening and travelling, but most of all, her family. Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Nancy Gillies (Stan James) of Saint John, NB, Linda (Doug) Burgess of Riverview, NB and Betty Jane (Mike) Brown of Picadilly; her sons: Larry (Ruth) of Braeside, Ontario, Ted (Susan) of Drury’s Cove, NB, Paul (Paula) of Sussex, NB; grandchildren: Timothy Gillies, Nicole Lucas, Cory Robertson, Jody Brown, Kellye Robertson, Jodie Brown-Brassington, Tracey Robertson, Scott Burgess, Todd Burgess, Steven Fairweather, Alex Fairweather, Kaleigh Robertson, Marleigh Robertson, Brodye Robertson, Bayley Brown, Hunter Brown and Sam Brown; great-grandchildren: Jacob, Colby, Amber, Anna, Laura, Eric, Tyson, Jaxson, Ashley, Sydney, Joshua and Jayden, and Kalle; her sisters: Ruby Booth of Sussex and Jean (Ted) Munroe of Moncton; her brothers: Gordon (Georgie) Hall of Norton and Ralph (Shirley) Hall of Norton; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides her parents Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband Len Robertson, and brothers-in-law: John Booth and Burpee Ganong. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, from where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16 from 1-4 & 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held in the Sussex Select Chapel on Friday, October 17 at 11:00 am with Jeanette Cosman presiding. Interment will be held in Riverbank Cemetery.
