Obituary of Austin Squarebriggs

Squarebriggs, Austin Haywood, of Truro NS, passed away peacefully at the Colchester Regional Hospital on March 16, 2013. Born on Prince Edward Island, he was a son of the late Donnel and Edna (nee Mulaine) Squarebriggs. Austin served in the Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. After the war Austin worked security at the Veterans Hospital in Edmonton for 11 years and also for the Harbour Police Force in Halifax. He was involved in 11 years of pro boxing, and worked for Maritime Central Airways. Austin is survived by companion, Muriel Barr; son, David (Patricia) Squarebriggs of Sussex; daughter, Melody White of Manitoba; step-son, Gordon Quartly of Calgary, Alberta; step-daughter, Dena Bickford of Alberta; brother, Stirling Squarebriggs of Charlottetown, PEI; as well as by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Austin was predeceased by his wife, Marg (nee Osburne) Squarebriggs; second wife, Delores Courtley; sisters: Nora Squarebriggs and Edith Mornick; and brother, Reg Squarebriggs. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sussex Select Community Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 1-2pm. The funeral service will then be held at 2:00pm all at Sussex Select Community Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Hillier presiding. Donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Interment will be held at a later date.
