Obituary of Ray Phillips

The death of Ray Alvin Phillips of Sussex Corner occurred at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on November 26, 2010 at the age of 82. Born in Mount Royal, PEI, he was the last surviving child of the late J. Sergent and Maude (MacArthur) Phillips. He served in Korea with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment. He was one of the first that joined the special forces, leaving for Korea in August 1950 and returned at the end of May in 1952. Ray always enjoyed attending the Korea War Vet’s annual reunion. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Gertrude L. (Clark) Phillips, sons; Sheldon (Jannie) of Saint John, Gordon (Connie) of Plumweseep, Evan (Liz) of Markhamville and Ralph (Jane) of Sussex, grandchildren; Carrie (Matt) Lord, Pamela Phillips, Michael Phillips, Tanya (Kent) Warman and Jennifer (Tim) Godsoe, step grandchildren Roy Nairn, Lisa Nairn, Scott Veysey and Jill Veysey, several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his sisters; Ivy Cairns, Lillian Caliri and Flora Easter and brothers; Wyman, Ernest, Vernon, Brenton, Sanford, Sen. Orville and Erland Phillips. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday November 29, 2010 at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, Sussex.
