The death of Ruth Muriel MacLong of Sussex occurred on June 4, 2004 at the Sussex Health Center. Born June 19, 1912 at Burlington, NS, she was a daughter of Frederik and Jennie (Rudolph)Saunders and the widow of the late Clarence MacLong. Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her children Donna Jefferies and her husband Robert of Saint John and Clarence “Bud” and his wife Dorene of Fredericton, seven grandchildren; Lori Edgar, Cindy Lunn (Andrew), David MacLong (Norma), Greg MacLong, Sherry Doucet (Ben), Rev. Paul Jeffries and Edward Jeffries, eleven great grandchildren; Trevor Jeffries, Brandon Doucet, Brianne Lunn, Kayla Lunn, Madison Lunn, Caleb MacLong, Skye MacLong, Justin MacLong, Alesha MacLong, Michelle MacLong and Matthew MacLong. In addition to her parents and husband Ruth was predeceased by a son David in 1963 and an infant son, sisters Alice Costello and Lilla Howell and brothers Roy, Thomas, Ernest, Arthur and Everett Saunders. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Rd Sussex (506-433-2133) on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Prince Edward Temple #22 Phythian Sisters will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Saturday at 6:45PM. The funeral service will be held on Sunday June 6, 2004 at 2:30PM in the funeral home chapel, with Reverend David Barrett officiating. Interment at the St. John The Evangelist Cemetery Waterford. As expressions of sympathy donations made to St. John The Evangelist Cemetery, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Diabetic Society or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
