Obituary of L. Ralph Fuller

Ralph was born on July 18, 1923 in Leicestershire, England. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sheila on March 22, 2011. After leaving school, he managed a farm, and when the Second World War broke out, he was deemed as essential service, plus he served with Quorn Battalion of Leicestershire Regiment. He was reluctant to talk about the war, but interaction with German prisoners of war gave a human element to the war. In 1950, Ralph, Sheila, and two sons immigrated to Canada, settling in the Annapolis Valley and worked for George A. Chase Farms, later to become Canada Packers, for whom he worked for 38 years. Ralph was a dedicated farmer, owning an apple orchard, poultry farm, and beef cattle, as well as large gardens. Ralph and Sheila were always thankful for their adopted country of Canada. In 1964 he was transferred to Sussex with Sussex Poultry as Procurement Manager. Ralph was extremely active in the community. He was President of Kiwanis, Provincial President of the Royal Canadian Legion, a Sussex Town Councillor, President of the Sussex Golf and Country Club, as well as involvement with the Boy Scouts, the Salvation Army, and the Hospital Board, just to name a few. He is survived by five sons and one daughter: Keith (Zelda) of Duncan, BC, Denis (Marilyn) of Sussex, Roger (Mary) of Abbotsford, BC, Jeff (Rose) of Sussex, Janet Lee (Doug) of PEI, and Peter (Christine Wheeler) of Penobsquis. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Betty); and three sisters: Nellie Redmond, Joan Wass, and Mary Holland (Alf); and his sister-in-law Betty Baumann. Besides his wife and parents, Ralph was predeceased by his sister Jessie Ball. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex. There will be no visitation as per Ralph’s request. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 20 will be holding a tribute service at Trinity Anglican Church on Thursday February 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM, followed immediately by a funeral service with Rev. Wandlyn Snelgrove & Rev. Rob Trafton presiding. There will be an opportunity to meet with the family after the service. Interment will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery. Donations to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. On-line condolences are available at: www.sussexfh.com
