Obituary of George Adair

Mr. George "Otty" Adair was born in Poodiac, on May 11, 1917, he was the son of the late George Esley and Vera May (Baxter) Adair. Otty was the oldest boy in the family of four girls and three boys. He spent time at his grandmother Baxter's after the death of his grandfather. Otty worked with his uncle Frank Baxter with his wood cutting and threshing business and took it over after Frank's death. Otty was the community Handyman, when a building needed repairs he was the carpenter and the neighbors were the helpers. When Otty was in grade 7 and 8 he took the winters off to go to the woods with the team and bob sled to haul pulp wood and then go back to school at Easter and finish out his school year. Otty and his brother Hartley bought a farm in Newtown in 1945. In June 1946, Otty and Hattie were married. Hartley decided to move to Ontario so Otty then bought out Hartley's share of the farm. Otty farmed until 1971 and sold the farm and built them a small house on the property, where they lived until moving to Smith Creek in 1988. Otty finished out his career as a carpenter; he kept busy in his retirement; gardening and looking after his lawn. He was a very particular man. Otty bought his first General Motors vehicle in 1949 and his dream was to buy another new vehicle in 2009 to celebrate driving a General Motors for 60 years.
