Obituary of Harold Crawford Stockton
The death of Harold Crawford Stockton of Sussex occurred on January 26, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Rockville, Harold was a son of the late Waldo E. and Ida (Gulliver) Stockton and the husband of the late Sarah (Coy) Stockton who passed away in 2000. A veteran of the second world war, serving in France and Holland with the Canadian Engineers. After returning home, he completed studies at Ryerson Polytechnical (Toronto) and began a long career as Public Health Inspector with the province of New Brunswick, working in Kings County for the most part. Active in the Legion, he was a past president of the Sussex Legion Branch No.20, serving on many committees. A member of the Sussex Shrine Club, he enjoyed the camaraderie of old friends. A love for fishing and the outdoors, he could be found fishing many Saturdays in the Shepody Road area lakes and streams with family and friends. A family cottage on Belleisle Bay was a gathering place for brothers & sisters, their husbands & wives, family and friends, many who will remember the good times. He will be missed by family and friends. Harold & Sarah spent many winters in Florida with friends old and new. Recently, a move to an apartment at King's Manor in Sussex provided the opportunity to renew old friendships. Harold is survived by his daughter Cristabel Chernuka (Nicholas) of Alberta, sons David Stockton of Chipman and Paul (Jamie) Stockton of Hatfield Point, grandchildren Raegan and Sarah Stockton and Darren and Eric Chernuka, sisters Kathleen MacLeod (James) of Moncton and Dorothy VanWart (William) of London, ON, brothers Wellman (Ruby) Stockton of Hamilton, ON, Malcolm Stockton of Sussex and Vernon (Bertha) Stockton of Burlington, ON as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Saturday from 7-9 PM and on Sunday 2-4 PM. Sussex Branch #20 of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute on Saturday at 6:45 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday January 31, 2005 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Church with Reverend Philip Dallimore officiating. Interment will be at Kirk Hill Cemetery in the spring. As expressions of sympathy donations made to the Sussex Health Centre Dialysis Unit, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadain Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
