Obituary of Lloyd Emmerson Sleep
Mr. Lloyd Emmerson Sleep, of Kierstead Mountain, passed away on June 21, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, at the Sussex Health Center. Born on September 17, 1939, in the family home at Coles Island, Lloyd was the son of the late Leigh Eldridge Sleep and H. “Evelyn” E. (nee Perry) Sleep and husband of Madeline (McLean) Sleep.
Lloyd worked as a carpenter and was known for his eye for detail. He was very active and well liked in his community. He was a member of the Sussex and Norton Baptist Crokinole Club, a member, Deacon and Trustee of the Keirstead Mountain Baptist Church, served in Sunday School, DVBS and the Youth group. Lloyd had a special connection with children and was loved by them all. Lloyd had many hobbies which included gardening, fishing, boating and was also a gifted guitarist assisting with the church services and at special functions.
Lloyd will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Madeline (McLean) Sleep; his son Derrick Lloyd Sleep of St. Martins; his daughter Krista Louise Sleep of Moncton; his siblings: Elsie Viger (George) of Coles Island, Stanley Sleep (Marie) of Coles Island, Kathryn Peever (Archie) of Iroquois Falls, ON, Joan Glew (Doug) of Grand Bay-Westfield and his sister-in-law Joyce Sleep (late Ronald) of Riverview; his fraternal aunts: Jennie Gallo (Ernie) and Ethel Sleep (late Arnold) and his maternal aunt Edith Redekkopp.
Lloyd was a cherished uncle to several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews. He is also survived by many cousins, extended family members, and friends. Lloyd was predeceased by his brother Ronald and his infant sister Bertha Marie.
Arrangements are in the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, NB (506) 433-2133 from where visitation will be held on Saturday, June 24th, 2017 from 1-4 and 5-7pm. Funeral Service celebrating Lloyd’s life will be held on Sunday, June 25th, 2017 at 11:00am from the Lower Millstream United Baptist Church. Interment will take place at the Coles Island Baptist Cemetery followed by a time of fellowship with the family at the Coles Island Lions Center.
