Obituary of Pauline L. Mills

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Pauline Lillian Mills of Sussex at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, November 9, 2012. Beloved wife of the late Anthony “Tony” Mills, Pauline was born a country girl in Knightville, N.B. on November 13, 1925 to Nelson and Laura Anderson (nee Carll). She is survived by her children: George (Linda) Mills of Rothesay, Mary (Michael) Cunningham of Riverview, Anne (David) Caldwell of Hampton, and Rob (Shelley) Mills of Moncton; grandchildren: Peter (Jennifer) Mills, Angela Mills (Troy Donovan), Jeffrey (Deidre) Cunningham, Jeremy and James Cunningham, Laura and Mark Caldwell, Kylie and Matthew Mills; great-grandchildren: Maya and Lucia Mills, Clara Donovon and Jane Cunningham. She is also survived by her brother, Lloyd (Audrey) Anderson of B.C. Besides her parents, Pauline was predeceased by her loving husband, Tony Mills; sisters, Jean McGibbon and Irene Preedy; and brothers: John, James, Clarence, Donald and Victor Anderson. Pauline was a graduate of N.B. Teachers College and started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Knightville. She met Tony while teaching at Penobsquis Superior School. Tony and Pauline married in 1951. She worked alongside him for many years at Tony’s Esso in Penobsquis before moving to Sussex in 1971, where she ran a private kindergarten in her home starting in 1973 and running for the next 12 years. Pauline was a dedicated member of St. Paul’s United Church and was well known for her flower gardens and love of knitting. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Rd. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 6-9pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11am at St. Paul’s United Church with Rev. Scott Hillier presiding. A private interment will take place at the Red Bank Cemetery, Chipman. Donations made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
