Obituary of Stanley E. Thorne
Stanley E. Thorne, formerly of the Kiwanis Nursing Home, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the age of 81. Stanley was a son of the late Lee Theodore and Elsie (nee McKnight) Thorne. Stan was born on June 5, 1935 in Sussex, NB. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Mona (nee Corey), formerly of Havelock; his daughter Karen Coffill (Andrew) of Sussex; his son Kent of Apohaqui; his beloved grandchildren: Alex and Emma Coffill and Larissa and Justus Thorne; his sisters Betty Muir and Margaret (Wayne) Coates; and also leaves behind several nephews, one niece and extended family. Besides his parents, Stan was predeceased by his brother Delbert and brother-in-law Gerald Muir. Stan started work at the Kings County Record in Sussex, afterwards he moved to Saint John and worked at F.W. Woolworth’s store for ten years. When G.E. Barbour Co. moved to Sussex, he became employed with them and moved back to Sussex. He worked for G.E. Barbour Co. for thirty two years before retiring in 1998. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, cutting wood, gardening and skating. He was also an avid hockey fan. He loved talking about Gordie Howe, and watching his favorite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home 21 Aiton Rd., Sussex. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 14, 2016 from 1:30 … 3:00pm with a funeral service to follow at 3:00pm all at Faith Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Tim MacDonald and Pastor Danny Jack presiding. A private family interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery.
