Obituary of George McKinney

George “Machum” McKinney of Sussex, and formerly of Berwick passed away peacefully on January 15, 2016 at the Sussex Health Center surrounded by his family. Machum was born May 7, 1928 in Summer Hill, NB to the late George and Margaret (nee Russell) McKinney. He worked as a dairy farmer since 1945 and truly enjoyed working his wood lots. Machum is survived by his wife Dorothy McKinney (nee Woods); his children: Sharon Seymour (Bruce) of Lower Millstream, Peter McKinney (Tammy) of Berwick, and Teresa Steeves (Paul) of Norton; his grandchildren: Scott (Michelle & Jordyn), Lisa & Trevor Seymour and Courtney (Mike Mitton), Kaley & Brittany Steeves; his great-grandson Owen Mitton; his brother David McKinney (Ruth) of Maugerville; and by several nieces, nephews and extended family. He will always be lovingly remembered by Dorothy’s family: Murray & Roberta Woods, Maxine Cooper, and Art & Winona Quigg. Besides his parents, Machum was predeceased by his brother Russell McKinney (Chloe). Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, NB (506-433-2133). A funeral service commemorating Machum’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday January 19, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Pam Reidpath presiding, followed by an opportunity to meet with the family. Interment will be held in the Riverbank Cemetery at a later date. Donations to the Salvation Army Church, the Wesley United Church Mission & Service Fund, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
