Obituary of Catherine T. White
On July 31, 2013, peacefully at home, Kay left this world and began her journey to meet once more with her beloved husband, Patrick White, who went before her in 1998. Born in Norton, NB on July 7, 1929 to Patrick and Alice (nee Mahoney) Cogger, Kay was the fifth of nine children, enjoying a happy childhood on the family farm. Nursing was her calling and in 1949 she graduated from the Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Saint John. After graduation, she enjoyed most of her nursing career at Kings County Memorial Hospital in Sussex. She loved all aspects of nursing from delivery room to surgical ward. She met and made many lifelong friends there, and retired from the Sussex Health Centre in 1994. Kay enjoyed bowling, knitting, reading and making her popular jams, jellies and pickles. She also loved the many dances, parties, and musical evenings had with friends and family. She leaves to mourn her passing: daughter, Anne Alexander (Mitch) of Sussex Corner; son, John White of Sussex; sisters: Mary Gallagher of Rothesay, Loretta Goguen of Summerside, Patricia Byrne (Paul) of Moosehorn Creek, and Margaret Casey of Saint John; brother, Frank Cogger (Olive) of Saint John. She also leaves an extended family of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her parents, Kay was also predeceased by her brothers: Joseph, Lawrence and Jerome. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, where visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-6pm; a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013, at 11:00am at the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church with Father Arnie Hachey presiding. Interment will take place at the Wards Creek Catholic Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Red Cross, Sussex Extra Mural or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
