Coates, Edith Lillian, 90, of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Center on February 12, 2012. Born in Knightville, she was the daughter of the late Ernest & Olivia (nee Anderson) Carll. Edith was a life member of the St. Paul’s UC and UCW, and also attended the Anagance Ridge UC and UCW. She was a part of the womens institute in Knightville, and was a past member of the Orange Lodge. Edith also enjoyed playing Crokinole, and family outings with children and grandchildren. She is survived by daughters; Shirley Douthwright of Sussex and Phyllis (Ora) Lackie of Smith Creek, son Carl (Margaret) Coates of Bonneyville, AB; 11 grandchildren: Michelle Douthwright (Eric Marceau), Michael Douthwright (Laureen), Danielle Wilson (Donnie), Matthew Douthwright (Stephanie Guay), Kim Lackie (Doug), Richard Lackie (Michele), Dennis Lackie (Julie), Peter Lackie (Sherrilyn), John Lackie (Shannon), Dean Lackie (Amy) and Derek Lackie (Holly); 10 great grandchildren: Dalton, Libby, Paige, Claire, Davis, Ruby, Scarlett, Hunter, Ethan, Lucas, Jacob, Taylor, Ashley, Caleb and Daxon, Easton, Hanna, Emily, Claire; sisters in law: Mary Carll, Adelia Mercer, Annie Floyd, Florence McFarland, and Florence Coates; brother in law Irvine Coates; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband John Coates; brothers: Robert, Ora, and Raymond; sisters: Grace, Bertha, Alma, and Annie; and son-in-law, D. Spargo Douthwright. The funeral service will be held at Sussex Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday February 15, 2012 at 11:00 am with Jeanette Cosman officiating. As expressions of sympathy donations made to the The Gosline Cemetery or St. Paul’s United Church would be appreciated by the family.
