Obituary of John E. Candy

John Edward Candy, 81, of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on July 26, 2012. Born in Sussex, England, he was the son of the late Harold Candy and Lillian (nee Bridge) Boyne. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne (nee Robinson) Candy; sons: Peter (Janice) of Falmouth, N.S., Robert (Judy) of Roachville, Phillip (Tracey) of Sussex, David (Karen) of Riverview and Stephen (Emilee) of Vancouver; grandchildren: Lucas Candy (Melissa), Jonah Candy (Sarah), Nick Candy(Shari Hanna), Tiffany Wilkins (Wade), Matthew and Patrick Candy, Olivia and Sophia Candy; great-grandchildren: Gideon Candy and Chavala Wilkins; step-brother, Clifford Boyne (Charlotte) of Sussex; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his granddaughter, Hillary Candy. John was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #20, Sussex, and was a bandmaster for RCL Youth Marching Band. He was also a cenotaph chairman for 26 years. He was a former member of the Sussex Fire Department for 31 years, the Sussex Heart and Stroke and the F.O.I.E bird watching club that he and Anne started. He was one of the founding members of Sussex Minor Baseball, and he was involved with Sussex Minor Hockey. He was an avid gardener and an exhibitor of many flower and vegetable shows throughout the province. He was employed by Atlantic Wholesalers for 38 years, working as a sales rep throughout southern New Brunswick. He was also a proud recipient of the Sussex Citizen of the Year award. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 6-9pm at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:00pm with Rev. Neville Gosman presiding at the Penobsquis Baptist Church. A private interment will take place at the Pioneer Cemetery.
