Bannister, Myrtle Marylin passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 30, 2013. Born in Codys, September 27, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Lulu Gamblin, and the wife of the late Rev. Elwood "Al" Bannister. She met Al while at college in Massachusetts. Returning to Canada after their studies, they raised five children: Marilyn (Emery) Rogers, Paul, Tim (Diane), Philip (Jackie), and Peggy (Peter) O'Blenis. Myrtle lived her life as a passionate servant of Jesus Christ. She was a contributing alumna of Mount Allison University and Gordon College. With a lifelong commitment to service and hospitality, she fed virtually everyone in the various communities where she lived, and everyone was welcome in her home. She was a Life Member of the Codys’ Women's Institute, and the Women's Missionary Society of her church. In addition to faithfully serving with her husband in several pastorates in NB, she and Elwood taught in Kenya with Canadian Baptist Ministries for four years, fulfilling a lifelong dream. She is survived by her children, nine much-loved grandchildren, one great-grandchild, her sister, Lulu Guravich, and her brother-in-law Delbert (Alice) Bannister, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, parents, brothers: Bill and Harold, an infant son, John, and daughter-in-law, Jackie. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex (506-433-2133), from where visitation will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm; the funeral service will be held at the Sussex Baptist Church on Wednesday December 4, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Brian Steeves presiding. Interment will be held in the Coles Island Cemetery.
