Obituary of Donald John Joseph Murphy

Mr. Donald “Don” John Joseph Murphy of Berwick Place & formerly of Norton passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on February 17, 2017. Born in Collina, Don was a son of the late George & Verna (Dibblee) Murphy & husband of the late Angela Rose (Mercer) Murphy. Don worked in the forestry & scrap metal industries. He had a twinkle in his eye, a mischievous spirit & sharp sense of humour. He loved to take long drives to fish in the spring, picking berries & fiddleheads to keep our freezers full, finding a deal at the second hand shop, listening to bluegrass & country music on the radio, filling in his word searches & reading the Farmer’s Almanac, listening to action on his scanner, random road trips (even if it meant leaving in the middle of the night), camping trips & get-togethers; but he most especially loved spending time with his beloved wife Angela, his family & friends. Don is survived by his children: Derek Murphy (Laura) of Southfield, James Murphy (Kandi) of Belleisle Creek, Annette Ravn (Kevin) of Norton &Samantha Murphy of Irish Settlement; his sisters: Sheila McCrea (Jim) of Hampton, Shirley Adler, & Doris Everett, both of Etobicoke, ON, & Diane Bursey (Gord) of Brownsdale, NF; his brothers: Wayne Murphy (Eileen) of Brockville, ON & Preston Murphy of Ottawa, ON; many grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members & friends. Don was predeceased by his sister Vivian (Murphy) Mercer & his brother Walter Murphy. Arrangements are in the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, NB (506) 433-2133. A celebration of Don’s life will be held from the Sussex Select Chapel on Friday February 24, 2017 at 2 pm with a gathering of family & friends following the ceremony. Interment will take place at Kings Kirk United Cemetery in Norton at a later date.
