Obituary of Earl J. Cunningham

Earl went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family at home under the care of Extra-Mural Hospital on August 1, 2005. Earl was born at Cedar Camp, NB, where he attended school, a son of the late William and Rachel (Chambers) Cunningham. Earl was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking. He spent his first working years as a lumberman then turned to general contracting founding E.J. Cunningham Ltd. He operated the company from 1967 until his retirement in 1986. After retiring Earl expanded his hobby farm into a fulltime beef operation, Earlybird Farm, where he raised and showed purebred Herefords for more than 25 years as a member of the local and Canadian Hereford Association. He was involved in his community and volunteered on the Sussex Corner Recreation Council being instrumental in the building and operation of the Sussex Corner Outdoor Rink. He enjoyed being a Cub Leader in Boy Scouts of Canada; served a term on the School Board of District 18; Board of Trustees of Central Trust for a number of years; he was a member of the Sussex Kiwanis Club and also of the Orange Lodge, Waterford Branch. He was elected to the first Sussex Corner Village Council and served as Deputy Mayor. He was an active member of the Dutch Valley United Baptist Church and also attended Sussex United Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Joan (Maunder) Cunningham and children; E. James (Jean) Cunningham, Picadilly, Patricia Corbett (James), Las Vegas, Dorothy Bailey (Malcolm), Dartmouth, Ralph (Judy) Cunningham, Sussex Corner, Anne LaFontaine (Frank), Penhold, AB, Eric (Jane) Cunningham, Sussex Corner, Brenda Sharp (Lee) Lower Millstream, Peter (Susan) Cunningham, Picadilly and Allyson Raymond (Gordon), Urney, twenty-eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, sisters; Marion Mason (Robert) and Elizabeth Koven (Sam), Saint John, brothers Ernest Cunningham, Sussex Corner and Harvey (Janet) Cunningham, Lincoln, Maine, several nieces and nephews. Earl was predeceased by sisters Dorothy Collupy and Evelyn McInerney and brothers William, Alton and Asa Cunningham. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday August 5, 2005 at the Sussex United Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations made to the Sussex Dialysis Unit, the Diabetic Society or the charity of the donor's choice would be apprecatied.
