Obituary of Annette J. MacKenzie

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Annette Jeanette MacKenzie of Sussex Corner, announce her passing on December 5, 2012 at the Sussex Health Centre. Born in 1926 in Cochrane, ON, she was a daughter of the late Francois and Emma (nee Eumena) Cote and the wife of the late Garnet MacKenzie. Annette worked as a nurses aide when she was younger, and after her children were raised she worked at Baird’s for several years. She was a member of the Sussex Baptist Church where she was a choir member, she taught Sunday School, attended Ladies Bible Study, and she was a Dominion Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening and thoroughly enjoyed picking berries! She loved cooking and baking and took delight in entertaining. Many would remember her for her specialty cakes which she created. Above all, Annette was a caregiver, and her family meant everything to her. She is survived by her loving children: Muriel Gray (Joseph) of Midland, Wayne MacKenzie (Jane) of Burlington, ON, and Mary Anne McGibbon (John) of Sussex; her cherished grandchildren: Lori Kerstens (John) of Fredericton, Michael Gray (Tara) of Winnipeg, Jordan MacKenzie of Toronto, Carolyn MacKenzie (Joey Henderson) of Hampton, Lauren MacKenzie of Burlington; and Troy McGibbon (Vanessa) of Sussex and Joel McGibbon (Jessi) of Sussex; her precious great-grandchildren: Carter, Alicia, Derick, Nolan, and Jonah McGibbon and Calen Gray; as well as by many nieces and nephews. Annette was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, Annette was predeceased by her beloved husband Garnet; son, John MacKenzie; and great-grandson, Cole Gray; her brothers and sisters: Emile, Alice, Cajetan, Jeanette, Yvonne, Bernadette, Joseph, Ida, and Leonard. Visitation will be held at the Sussex Select Funeral Home on Friday December 7, 2012 from 4-8 pm; the funeral service will be held on Saturday December 8, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Sussex Baptist Church with Dr. Leo Gallant presiding. Interment will be held in the Riverbank Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Red Cross, or a charity of you choice would be appreciated by the family.
