Obituary of G. Eileen Hawkes

It is with great sadness that we, as a family, announce the death of Eileen Hawkes of Waterford, NB who passed away peacefully at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on December 31, 2013 following a lengthy battle with dementia. Born in Chambers Settlement, she was a daughter of the late James and Eva (nee Carr) Fanjoy. Eileen was a loving and devoted wife of 68 years to her husband Murray; a beloved mother to Philip Hawkes of Waterford and Carolyn Floyd (Bill) of Saint John; an amazing Nanny to Alison and Andrew Floyd; a caring sister to Harry Fanjoy (Verda), Carl Fanjoy (Joyce), and Ralph Fanjoy (Audrey). Eileen is also survived by many extended family members and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Marilyn Hawkes, her infant son David, and her brother Emerson Fanjoy. Eileen enjoyed attending social gatherings with Murray. You would often see them out together in the community actively participating in community suppers at the Waterford hall, attending/organizing card parties, 50 plus, charity bingo... Eileen was a member of the St John the Evangelist Church, the ACW, the Women’s Institute, and the Waterford GEMS LOBA. Murray and family would like to extend a great deal of gratitude to Anne West and the rest of the staff at the KNH for their wonderful care and support over the last month. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex (506-433-2133), from where visitation will be held on Thursday January 2, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, and the Waterford GEMS LOBA will be having a Tribute Service on Thursday at 5:45 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on January 3, 2014, at 11:00 am with Rev. Allen Tapley presiding in the St. John the Evangelist Church in Waterford. Interment will be held in the St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in the spring. Donations to the St. John the Evangelist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
