Obituary of Willa Marion Friars
Willa Marion Friars who made her home with her nephew Glenn Hicks and his wife Ida of Florenceville, NB passed away at the Northern Carleton Hospital in Bath, NB on January 28, 2005. Willa, who was formerly of Wards Creek, NB was born at Hicksville, Westmorland Co, NB in 1919, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Iva G. (Cochrane) Hicks and was the wife of the late James Milton Friars who passed away in 1988. She is survived by a brother Ronald (Irene) Hicks of Wards Creek, sister-in-law Marjorie Hicks of Havelock, nephews and nieces Glenn (Ida) Hicks, Wayne (Barb) Hicks, Malcolm (Cynthia) Hicks, Sharon (John) Magee, Susan Hicks, Dawn Hicks (Doug Milley) and Errol Hicks, also Jim's nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Willa was predeceased by her twin brother Wilie Hicks, brother Frank Hicks and sister Francis Ann Hicks. During her life Willa had worked at Eaton's in Moncton, Sears, Baird's and the Tam O Shanter. She was an active member of the Sussex United Baptist Church, a life member of the Women's Missionary Society at the church, a life member of the Wards Creek Women's Institute and since moving to Florenceville was a member of the Friendship Seniors. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 1, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jeff Benson of Sussex United Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Kirk Hill Cemetery, Sussex in the spring. As expressions of sympathy donations made to the CNIB or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
