The death of Ellery Caunter occurred at the Sussex Health Centre on May 31, 2008 at the age of 82. Born at Sherbrooke, QC, the eldest son of the late Walter R. and Gertrude M. (Thornton) Caunter. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Harvey) Caunter, sons; Steven (Linda) Caunter of Ottawa, Brian (Lucie) Caunter of Carleton Place, ON and Terry (Diane) Caunter of Gatineau, QC, stepchildren; Lois (Tim) King of Sussex, Gordon (Sylvia) Harvey of Millstream and Diane Snow of Sussex, eight grandchildren, one great granddaughter, 10 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, his brothers; Earl (Joyce) Caunter and Edward (Cathy) Caunter, both of North Hatley, QC, brother-in-law Viotti (Annie) McLean of Apohaqui, several nieces and nephews and their families. Ellery had a great passion for automobiles, he loved listening to music, working in his work shop, boating and chocolate ice cream. He was a veteran of WWII and served as a Sergeant-Major and Commissioned Officer in the militia after the war. He worked for General Motors for over 26 years as a claims adjuster and office manager. He also was involved in the Boy Scouts in various roles for well over 30 years. Ellery had a keen sense of humour and was exceptionally curious. He was an avid reader with a special interest in stories of the sea. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Wednesday from 2-4PM. Branch #20 Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute on Wednesday at 1:45PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday June 5, 2008 at the Sussex Wesleyan Church at 1:00PM.
