Obituary of James Greer

It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of James Winston Greer of Petitcodiac, and formerly of Sussex, at the age of 85 on November 15, 2014. Born on August 17, 1929, he was a son of the late Philip and Annie (nee Fullerton) Greer. Winston worked most of his life as a carpenter, retiring from NB Housing. He enjoyed golf and was a long time member of the Petitcodiac Golf & Country Club. He was a member of the Petitcodiac Baptist Church and the Sussex Baptist Church from where he was a former Deacon and Choir member of both. Winston will be remembered for his musical contributions to many jams, fundraisers and gatherings over the years. Winston is survived by his wife Elva (Kelso, nee McPhee) Greer; his children: James T. Greer of Saint John, Bev (Cedric) Simpson of Ontario, Dale (Charlotte) Greer of Halifax, Cheryl Greer of Mill Cove, Susan (Ernest) Doucette of Quispamsis, Jane Gabriel of Nova Scotia, Chris Greer of Oxford, NS, Tony (Kim) Greer of Quispamsis and Sandra Cruickshank of Sussex; his step children: Lennie Kelso of Sussex, Debbie (John) Nickerson of Sussex, Trudy Elliott (Donnie Elliott) of Sussex and Cathi (Jeff) Myers of Halifax; his sister, Phyllis (Earnest) Sambles of Saint John; his brothers: Les Greer of Alberta and Larry (Diane) Greer of Ontario; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Winston was predeceased by his brother Shirley Greer. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Armstrong’s Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac, NB, (506)756-3361. As per the family’s request, there will be no public visitation. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Petitcodiac Baptist Church with Rev. David Woodworth presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Petitcodiac Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
