Obituary of Mabel Elizabeth Roxborough
Mabel Elizabeth Roxborough of Sussex, wife of the late Berton S. Roxborough, passed away at her residence on August 6, 2008. She was born in Saint John on August 26, 1911, a daughter of the late Bandmaster Harold “Pete” and May (Harding) Williams. Mabel is survived by her daughter Moyra Long and husband George of Sussex, two grandsons Mitchell Long of Sussex and Burke Long and wife Rhonda of Moncton, one great grandson Nathan Long and several nieces and nephews. Mabel was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by sisters Frances Beare and Patricia Howes and brothers George and Charles Williams. Mabel saw many exciting changes in her lifetime. In her younger years she enjoyed boating on the Saint John River and shopping trips to Boston. She loved to dance and cook and enjoyed movies. She was employed by Saint John Power as a book keeper. It was there she met and married, Berton, also a bookkeeper. In 1941 they moved to Moncton, where her husband was employed with Eaton's. In 1942 the couple came to Sussex with Sussex Ginger Ale. She has enjoyed many happy years in the community. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Friday August 8, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. The funeral service will take place on Saturday August 9, 2008 at 2:00PM in the funeral home chapel followed by interment at Kirk Hill Cemetery with the Venerable David Barrett officiating.
