Obituary of Stanley Paul Isanen

The family of Stanley Isanen is sad to announce his peaceful passing at the Moncton City Hospital on Friday evening with his loving family at his side. The only son of predeceased parents Paul Isannainen and Pansy (Lahtinen).

Born and raised in Northern Ontario mining towns of Kirkland Lake and Sudbury. After secondary school and 2 years as timekeeper at a silver mining operation, Stan attended the Haileybury School of Mines for 3 years and graduated in 1955. For the next 29 years, except for a brief 2 year period in the early 60's when he considered a career in legal land surveying, Stan was involved in a number of mining projects throughout Canada as a surveyor, chief surveyor, mine planner, project engineer, engineering and underground supervisor and assistant manager. He enjoyed work and adventures in Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. He met and married his wife Kathleen who was a nurse in Chapais, Quebec in 1965. Until her passing in 2004 they spent 39 years living a gypsy life at various work sites and traveling throughout Canada and the United States. In 1984 Stan joined the Canadian Federal Government as a project officer (regulator) with the Atomic Energy Control Board now called the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. The last 14 years of his working life was spent with the Commission. Upon his retirement in 1998 Stan and Kathleen retired to Sussex, New Brunswick where they resided until Kathleen's passing. In time, Stan moved to Saint John for a period of time and finally in 2009 he moved to Moncton where he spent his final years.

Stan is survived by a multitude of relatives in Finland, where both his parents were born, as well as other parts of Europe. However, in Canada and the United States he is survived by his son Preston Routledge (Joan) of Sussex; grandchildren: Debra Routledge (Mike), Joseph Routledge (Becky), Vanessa Coggan (Mike), Ashley Routledge (Brian), and Dylan Routledge (Taylor); 11 great-grandchildren; one cousin, Karen Kirby (Kivinen) of St. Catherines, Ontario; daughter-in-law Doreen Mosher. Besides his parents, Stan was predeceased by his loving wife Kathy; his son Ronald Routledge and his cousin Claire Wisnowski.

Arrangements are in the care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, NB (506)433-2133. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23,2017 from 1-2pm followed by a service celebrating his life at 2:00pm with Bishop Jason Russell presiding, all in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family. The family requests that everyone attending the service wear something brightly coloured to be in accordance with Stan's love of vibrant colours. Online condolences can be made at www.sussexfh.com
