Obituary of Clara Folkins

Mrs. Clara Folkins was born in Millstream on February 27, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Jessie (Livingstone) Goggin and the wife of the late Ora Folkins who passed away in 1975.

Clara was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and an aunt her family was very important to her.

Clara was a very strong willed and very independent lady. She learned to drive when she was 58 and drove until she was 81.

She loved to cook, knit and read. She was a former member of the Jefferies Corner WI and the Sussex United Baptist Church WMS.

Clara was a former member of the Jefferies Corner WI and the Sussex United Baptist Church WMS. She loved to make bread, choke cherry jelly, churn butter and knit mittens.
Clara was always very proud of the accomplishments of her family. She was genuine, honest and real. She enjoyed tea, cookies and sharing her many stories with her grandchildren. When they stayed overnight at her house on St. George St. she gave them money for penny candy to go to McGivery's Store.

She was a great listener, independent, elegant and loved beautiful clothes, which looked perfect on her. She enjoyed having the grandchildren help with the dusting even though they used a full can of pledge every time, but rather than hurt their feelings she began leaving part cans around for them to find. Summer vacation at her house always meant three things....Fun and Cherry Cheese Cake and the odd 1to 2 hour nap. She introduced her grandchildren to farming, they all had their own calves picked out and named. They swung from the rafters into the hay more than worked but she would never say a word.

It was later in Clara's life that she experienced many new things, like learning to drive, and flying to Ontario and Germany and even going through Tim Horton's drive thru at the tender age of 90. She was amazed that you could drive up to a building to get your tea without leaving your car. Clara was a remarkable woman, she even reached the age of 94 without taking any medication.

Clara was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She will live on in the hearts of three daughters: Jean and her husband Rev. Ford Alward of Woodstock, Dawna Mahoney and her husband Reg of New Line Rd. Marilyn Thorne and her husband Eldon of Sussex Corner; her son Bev and his wife Grace of Roachville, 13 Grandchildren: David Alward and his wife Rhonda of Meductic, Mark Alward and his wife Brenda of Nackawic, Stephen Alward and his wife Jeanette of Green Hill Lake, Paul and his wife June of Woodstock, Rebecca Alward of Albania, Kim Mahoney of Belleville, On. Susan Anderson and her husband Dennis of Norton, Kevin Mahoney and his wife Heidi of Bloomfield, Ken Mahoney and his wife Cathy of Erb Settlement, Ann Haire and her husband Craig and Donna Thorne all of Cold Lake, Alberta, Sharon Moore and her husband Richard and Connie Folkins all of Sussex; 16 great grandchildren: Jonathan, Benjamin, Hannah, Alyson, Jadon, Nathan, Bradley, Derek, Erin, Keria, Colton, Connor, Madison, Katie and Taylor; as well as several nieces and nephews.
