Obituary of Gordon Robert Baker

Baker, Gordon Robert, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2015 in High-Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, NS. Born in Wrentham, Mass, January, 27, 1925 to parents Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Travis). He was raised in Yarmouth and spent early years going to sea. He later worked as a marine engineer with various companies, then at the Heavy Water Plant in Port Hawkesbury. Gordon retired and moved to Sussex where he built a home and spent 20 years there with cherished wife Margaret and devoted companion Blackie. Gordon was an avid gardener, loved to read, tinker with old vehicles and work on his property. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his daughters: Judy Steinhoff of Orillia, ON, Sandra (Jim Ritcey) of Oxford, NS, and Gaile (Richard Davis) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren: Lori (Tony deMunnik), Jeff Steinhoff, Tyler (Virginia), Jason (Taralee), Brian (Heather) Davis; Joe (Elisha), Debbie (Trevor), and Nick Ritcey; great-grandchildren: Abigail, Scarlett, Ty, Evan, Hayden, and Will; sister Joan Urquhart, and brother Charley. Predeceased by beloved wife Margaret (nee Trefry), his sister Martha Dole and his brother Joseph. Special thanks to Dr. Rondeau and all of dad’s caregivers at High Crest who provided a nurturing and supportive family environment, we are truly grateful. Visitation will take place at Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, (506) 433-2133, on Thursday, May 14, at 10am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am with Rev.
