Smith, Esther “Beryl”, 83, of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre surrounded by her loving family members on January 22, 2017. Born in Newtown, she was a daughter of the late Garnett and Dorothy (nee Price) Powell. Beryl worked for the Town Works Department. She was a member of the Salvation Army, and spent endless hours volunteering for the Salvation Army and the Thrift Store. Beryl is survived by her children: Deborah Lynn Pearson (Doug) of Ottawa, ON, Gary Smith (Pat) of Woodstock, Garnett Smith of Norton, Keith Smith (Belinda) of Saint John, Timmy Smith (Heather) of Sussex, George Smith (Margaret) of Dartmouth, Anthony Smith (Mona) of Guelph, ON, and Mark Smith (Rhonda) of Norton; her sister Doreen Forward of Saint John; her brother-in-law Arthur Goddard; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, as well as several other extended family members and friends. Besides her parents, Beryl was predeceased by her sisters: Sheila Goddard, Elvira “Vi” McIllwraith, and Muriel Powell; and her brother George Powell. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex (506-433-2133). There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 26, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Salvation Army Sussex Community Church with Majors Judy and Stan Folkins presiding.
