Obituary of Elizabeth P. O'Laughlin
Elizabeth “Betty” P. O’Laughlin (nee McLeod), 86, of Sussex passed away on November 6th, 2012 at her residence. Born in Penobsquis, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Bernetta (nee Flemming) McLeod. Betty is survived by her sister, Ella McLeod of Penobsquis; sisters-in-law: Mary O’Laughlin and Audrey McLeod; brother-in-law, Jim O’Laughlin; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Eakins; second husband, George O’Laughlin; siblings: Mildred Shannon, Norman McLeod, Josephine Dunfield and William McLeod. Betty graduated from Sussex Regional High School and then attended Oulton’s Business College in Moncton. She worked at Eaton’s in Toronto for a few years, then after marriage, moved to the United States. Betty was the vice president for 30 plus years of a Van line moving company in Illinois. She volunteered in various organizations, and received special recognition for her work with the Prince Edward Home for over 15 years of service. She was a member of the I.O.D.E. as well as the Park Royal United Church for several years. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sussex Select Community Funeral Home. As per Betty’s request, there will be no visitation held. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:00am at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Fisher presiding. Interment will take place at the Pioneer Cemetery. Donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
