Obituary of Ronald Watson
It is with sadness we announce the death of Ronald Edwin Watson of Sussex Corner on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a short illness. Ron was born in Sussex on July 17, 1928, the son of the late John A. and Della Watson. Ron worked in the family hardware business in Sussex, moved to the United States and was drafted into the US Army. He returned to the hardware business in Sussex and then worked at NBLC until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed life and was a very independent person. In recent years he was active in curling, coin collecting, the gym, researching his ancestry, and morning coffee at MacDonald’s with his friends. He had a life-long interest in the local history of the greater Sussex area. Ron was elected to three terms as a Councillor in Sussex Corner. He is survived by his two daughters Debbie Watson of Uxbridge, Ontario and Zoë Watson (Gervais Warren) of Rothesay, his brother J. Paul Watson (Gail) of Riverside, California, and his two step-grandchildren Martyn Warren (Shanna Thompson) of Halifax and Christopher Warren (Lynne LePage) of Fredericton. Ron will be missed by his friend Murray Cunningham of Sussex and his neighbours. He was pre-deceased by his wife Barbara Watson in 2006, and his son-in-law Stuart Morrison. The family would like to thank his radiation oncologist Dr. Caissie for her support since August, and a special thank you to Dr. Wildish for fulfilling his wish to choose the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the care of Sussex Select Funeral Home and as per Ron’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation will be followed by a private interment at Kirk Hill Cemetery. There will be a reception and time of visitation with the family at Sussex Select Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex, NB on Sunday, November 20, 2016 between 2:00 … 5:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Ron can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
