Obituary of Theodora Wilhelmina Beyer
Farmer’s Wife & Loving Partner, Kind Mother & Grandmother, and Caring Sister. Dora died peacefully on Thursday May 12, 2016 with the loving husband Arnold and family by her side. She faced illness and steady decline with grace and dignity, always ready to offer a welcoming smile to those who visited. Dora was born in Alforst, Netherlands, a daughter of the late Arnold and Henriette van Ooijen, the oldest of eight children. She worked on the family farm and helped her parents in the home, taking care of her younger siblings. In 1952, Dora and Arnold were married and immigrated to Canada, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax. They initially moved to Chatham, ON for work, before eventually moving in 1958 to Norton, NB. It was here where they realized their dream of owning their own farm. Dora always understood the value of hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done. Her greatest gift was her friendly, gentle, and kind nature. She loved and cared for her family tirelessly, always there for them with a pot of tea ready. Predeceased by her daughters: Maria and Dorothy; her sister Wilhelmina; her brothers: Willem, Henk, and Peter. Dora will be deeply missed by her husband of 64 years, Arnold, and by her seven children: Henriette (Gord) McIntyre, Arlene (Phil) Jamieson, Arnold (Jean) Beyer, Angela (Bernie) Michaud, Stan (Donna) Beyer, Rosanne Beyer, Janet (Alan) Munroe; her son-in-law Lars Johannesson. “Oma” will be missed by her grandchildren: Anna, Kim (Matt), Kayla, Tania, Stefan, Marcus, Brandon, Matthew, Greg, Jake, Robyn, Jonas and Garet. Dora is also survived by her siblings: Grada (Gerard), Jan (Nellie), Antoon (Truus), Joop (Thea), and sister-in-law Lena, all living in the Netherlands, as well as by many, many nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex, from where visitation will be held on Sunday May 15, 2016 from 6-8 pm; a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11:00 am, with Father Dan Bastarache officiating. Interment will be held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Red Cross would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all those who visited and cared for Dora over the past few years. In particular they want to give sincere thanks to her wonderful and beloved caregiver Donna Kyte, and to her special visitors Dodie Campbell & Della Griffiths.
