Obituary of Hedley Chown

Chown, Hedley Leonard, 92, of Sussex, passed away peacefully at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on July 8, 2011. Born in Collina, he was a son of the late George and Sophia (nee Long) Chown. Hedley operated a family farm and woodlot for many years; first as a dairy farmer, then raising beef cattle. He is survived by his children: Marion Hunter (Ron) of Douglas Harbour , Martin Chown (Joan) of Hammondvale, Darlene Vowles (Brian) of Colonsay, SK, and Doug Chown (Shaun) of Kierstead Mountain; his grandchildren: Andrew, Aaron & Kevin Hunter, Jeremy Chown, Lisa Katsiris, Dana Greenfield & Blake Bryant, and Gillian & Colban Chown; as well as by seven great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Hedley was the last surviving member of his immediate family; besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice Chown (nee Beck); his sister, Pearl Thompson; his brothers: Lawrence, Edward, Myles, Hanford, and William Chown. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm; the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at 11:00am with Rev. Brian Steeves presiding, all in Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex (506-433-2133). Interment will be held in the Kierstead Mountain Cemetery.
