Obituary of Hazel Audrey Kierstead

Hazel Audrey Kierstead of Cherryvale, NB passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2014. Hazel was the cherished wife of 65 years to the late Cleveland Harley Kierstead, who died on April 13, 2008. Born on May 20, 1922, she was the second youngest of seven children of the late William Harold Black and Edith Helena (nee Corey) Black. She was predeceased by her nephews: Ashley Thorne and Cecil Damery; as well as by all her siblings and their spouses: Elmer (Dora) Black, Helena (Tom) Damery, Avard (Velma) Black, Muriel (Calvin) Thorne, Aubrey Black and Verna Black. She is survived by her brother-in-law Vernon (Joan) Kierstead; her sister-in-law Florence Chown (late Myles); as well as by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Hazel was a member of the New Canaan United Baptist Church. She was always active in the community and in the P.C. Party. She was very outgoing, loved people, remembered dates of their significant events and had a special place in her heart for children and animals. She was known to many as their local “Avon Lady” during a sales career that spanned over 47 years. She felt honored to be celebrated by so many people on her 90th birthday and to have been the recipient, last year, of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Armstrong’s Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac, NB. from where visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29 from 6-8pm and the funeral service will held on Wednesday, April 30, at 2:00pm.
