Obituary of Keith Bowden Guptill

The death of Keith Guptill of Sussex, NB and formerly of Grand Manan, husband of Phyllis (Somers) Guptill, occurred November 7, 2010 at the Sussex Health Centre. He was born June 1, 1924 in Grand Harbour, Grand Manan, son of the late Capt. Ralph and Zelia (Wilson) Guptill. Keith served three years as an Able Seaman with the R.C.N.R. and three years with the Merchant Navy. He was a fisherman and light keeper in Nova Scotia before retiring. Keith was a member of Grand Manan Branch #44, Royal Canadian Legion and Faith Bible Baptist Fellowship, Sussex. Besides his wife Phyllis, Keith is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Young (Rick) of Moscow, Idaho, Beverley Babineau (Sam) of Moncton, Martha Guptill (Carl) of Galena Bay, BC; three sons, James Guptill of Halifax, NS, Barry Guptill (Barb) of Sussex and Carl Guptill (Liz) of South Branch, NB; one sister Helen Bagley (Horace) of Saint John; two brothers, Capt. Clinton Guptill (Judy) and Capt. Burton Guptill (Elizabeth) of Saint John; 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Keith was predeceased by a sister Berneice Thomas. Family visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday November 8, 2010 from 7-9PM. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Tuesday November 9, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. Branch #20 of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute Tuesday evening at 6:45PM. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday November 10, 2010 at Faith Bible Baptist Fellowship, 33 Pine Street, Sussex, NB at 11:00AM with Rev. Tim MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church gym. Interment will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Castalia, Grand Manan on Thursday November 11, 2010 at 2:00PM.
