Obituary of Doris E. Ritchie

The death of Doris E. Ritchie of Halifax, NS and formerly of Sussex occurred on November 26, 2004 at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. Born in Mace District, Kings Co. NB on October 11, 1912, only daughter of the late Melbourne V. and Frances M. (Keith) Wilcox. She worked as a telephone operator for NB Tel for 13 years, served as an airwoman in Number 1 Squadron, RCAF in the Second World War, then retired from Eaton's in 1976. Following retirement she worked as a receptionist at both Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex and Snows Funeral Home, Halifax and finally retiring for good in 1981. She was a member of Royal Canadian Legion (Fairview Branch) for many years. Doris was predeceased by three brothers Claude S., Chester H., and S. Keith Wilcox all of New Brunswick. Survived by her daughter Judy (Gary) Blackburn, her son Keith (Donna) Ritchie, brother Curtis M. (Margaret) Wilcox, sister-in-law Olive Weatherhead, three grandchildren Christine Fyfe (Brian), Andrew Ritchie (Deanne) and Michael Ritchie, five great grandchildren Kaitlyn and Colin Fyfe, Ashton Lane Ritchie, Emma Ritchie, Justin Bower and Hayley Dorey and nine nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at 6527 Berlin Street Halifax on Monday November 29 from 5-9 PM and at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Tuesday November 30 from 2-5 PM. Private family service and burial in Sussex, New Brunswick. As expressions of sympathy donations made to the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Garden Fund would be appreciated.
