Obituary of Frank Duke

Mr. Frank Ernest Duke was born in London on March 31, 1920, he was the son of the late William and Charlotte (Barrett) Duke. In 1938, Frank worked for Imperial Tobacco where he received the offer to join either, the Navy, the Army, or the Air Force. After he joined the Royal Air Force, most of his time was spent in a butcher shop cutting meat awaiting the inevitable war. When Frank was called to war in the early months of 1939, his job was to protect and guard a homemade airport that was built in a farmer's old field and there he sat in a ditch for the coldest winter that he had ever seen. Sergeant Frank Duke served with the Royal Air force throughout the WWII. Frank, along with his family moved to Toronto in 1957 and in 1963 they moved to Sussex and built the Maples Motel and Restaurant. He served on the Sussex Town Council; he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Senior Men's New Brunswick Championship Curling Team, Trinity Anglican Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20, Zion Lodge #21 F&AM. Frank was an avid golfer and curler and was a member and past president of the Sussex Golf and Curling Club. Ginger and Frank would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in August of this year, he often said what a great woman he had for over 63 years. Frank is survived by his wife Etha Deborah "Ginger Duke, Two Sons: Tony and his wife Susan of Mount Denson, NS and Dale and his wife Janet of Whitby, On; his daughter, Maxine Allaby and her husband Windsor of Sussex Corner; six grandchildren: Scott, Wanda, Heather, Sara, Andrew and Erin; seven great grandchildren: Emma, Hilary, Tracy, Casey, Mateo, Ava and Katie; as well ass several nieces and nephews. Frank was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is predeceased by his three sisters: Dorothy Todman, Winnifred Todman and Patricia Tucker. Mr. Frank Ernest Duke of Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on June 11, 2008 at the age of 88. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm . A Celebration of Frank's life will be held from Trinity Anglican Church on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 2:00 pm. The interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations made to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
