Obituary of Blair Parker Coates
It is with great sadness that the family of Blair Coates, announce his passing on February 28, 2013, at the age of 67, at the Sussex Health Centre. Born in Corn Hill, NB on July 17, 1945, he was a son of the late Parker and Nettie (nee Forsyth) Coates. Blair grew up on the family farm in Corn Hill. For the last 34 years he lived in his childhood home. As a teenager, Blair worked alongside his Dad in the woods, and several winters he cut wild Christmas trees off the family farm with his father. Over the years, he worked at George Patterson’s farm, Havelock Lime, Sussex CO-OP feed mill, Sussex Concentrates, carpentry with Lowell Thompson in Sussex, and Danny Carson in Havelock, and retired from Graymont Havelock. Blair was devoted to his family, and enjoyed the outdoors working his woodlot and gardening. He enjoyed nothing more than introducing his grandchildren to the berries, fruits & vegetables as they appeared each year and their excitement over picking and eating them. Blair will be sadly missed by his family: his wife Lois (nee Church); his daughters: Gail Coates-McCormick (Ed) of Petitcodiac, and Kathy LeBail (Brian) of Hampton; grandchildren: Nathaniel “Nate” and Isaac “Zeke” McCormick, and Elisabeth “Libby” and Alison “Ali” LeBail; his three brothers: Lloyd (Darlene), Delbert (Laura Lee), and Russell (Marilyn); his nephews and nieces: Fred, Donald, Crystal & Robert, Sherry, Roger & Matthew, Parker, Daniel & Rachelle; several sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, as well as many other extended family members and friends. Blair was predeceased by his parents: Parker and Nettie (nee Forsyth) Coates; his grandparents: Cecil and Alma (nee Robinson) Coates, and Frederick and Louise (nee Landry) Forsyth; and parents-in-law: Henry and Mildred (nee Payne) Church. Visitation will be held on Sunday March 3, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm; the funeral service will be held on Monday March 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Pastor James Hannah presiding, all at Sussex Select Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road, Sussex. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Sussex Extra Mural Program Foundation, or the Sussex Health Centre Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.
