Obituary of Anthony George Mills

Mills, Anthony “Tony” George, 95, of Sussex, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Sussex Health Center on February 4, 2011. Born in Windsor, England, he was a son of the late Albert “Jack” and Amelia (Parker) Mills. Tony is survived by his wife, Pauline Mills (nee Anderson); his daughters, Mary Cunningham (Michael) of Riverview, and Anne Caldwell ( David) of Hampton; his sons, George Mills (Linda) of Rothesay, and Rob Mills (Shelley) of Moncton; his brother, John Mills (Edith) of Chipman; his grandchildren, Peter Mills (Jennifer), Angela Mills (Troy Donovan), Jeffrey (Deidre), Jeremy and James Cunningham, Laura and Mark Caldwell, Kylie and Matthew Mills; great-grandchildren, Maya and Lucia Mills, Clara Donovan & Jane Cunningham; as well as by a cousin. Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Hornbrook in 1950. He was a graduate of Chipman High School, and attended Mount Allison University. For 32 years, Tony was self-employed as a local Penobsquis merchant, the same community in which he raised his family. Tony sold his business in 1971, and relocated to Sussex to finish a career at the CO-OP. He also continued his tenure with Zion Lodge # 21 F & AM, of which he was Past Master and Chaplain, as well as his service and patronage to Kings Chapter # 21 Order of the Eastern Star, the Luxor Shrine Club, and the Progressive Conservative Party of NB, the latter of which he was a lifetime member. He was a dedicated member of the St. Paul’s United Church community. Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 8th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm in Sussex Select Funeral Home; a celebration of Tony’s life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church on Wednesday, February 9th at 2:00 pm. Interment will be held in the Red Bank Cemetery in Chipman at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. On-line condolences are available at: www.sussexfh.com
