Obituary of W. Douglas Campbell
The death of W. Douglas Campbell occurred on Tuesday April 22, 2003 at the home of his niece Iris and Francis Guptill of Searsville, New Brunswick. Doug was born on October 6, 1918 at Sutherlands River Pictou County, Nova Scotia, a son of the late William A and Margaret A (Sutherland) Campbell. Doug served in the Canadian Armed Forces for five and a half years. He is a member of the Trenton Branch #29 of the Royal Canadian Legion. After the Second World War, Doug worked as a miner until 1958 when he moved to Cambridge Massachusetts where he was engaged in the trucking industry. After his retirement he moved to North Salem Massachusetts and in 1998 to Andover, Massachusetts. All through the years Doug enjoyed making trips to the Maritimes to visit family, friends and familiar places and up until two years ago he was able to drive himself. Doug was predeceased by his wife of 33 years Geraldine (White) Tobin Campbell. He is survived by Geraldine's Children, daughter Bernice Hubley and husband Wally and son William Tobin of Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Four step grandchildren, Michelle, Rhonda, Mike, two-step great grandchildren and his many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Doug was also predeceased by his brothers John, Clifford, Alexander and Duncan and his sister Bessie MacDonald. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003 in P & K MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, NS with Rev. Glenn MacDonald officiating, followed by a Royal Canadian Legion tribute service. Interment will be in a family lot at Castle Hill Cemetery, MacLellans Brook, Nova Scotia.
