Obituary of Albert Leonard Bunnell

Albert Leonard Bunnell, Wards Creek, NB, son of the late Isaac and Minnie (Walker) Bunnell, born August 3, 1921, passed peacefully September 7, 2010. Survived by his wife Marjorie (O’Neill); children David (Darlene), Miramichi and Lois (Bob) at home, sisters in law Delores Bunnell, Surrey, BC, Dorothy Eldridge, Miami and Margaret O’Neill, Fredericton; nieces, nephews, cousins and of course his “dialysis girls.” Predeceased by siblings Murray, George and Eleanor as well as uncles George and Leonard, killed in heavy battles in France during WWI With the outbreak of WWII, Albert joined the NB Rangers, later transferring to the Carleton & York Regiment, serving in the infantry where he fought courageously in Ortona, Italy, twice wounded and recommended for the Military Medal. He then came up through Europe, serving in Belgium and Holland, arriving home at the end of the war in 1945. He was employed with the D.O.T. in Sussex until the death of his father in 1954 when he took over the family farm in Wards Creek, retiring in 1974 due to illness. Albert was a proud, hardworking man who loved the land. He was also known for his weedless gardens and prize winning dahlias. In keeping with Albert’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Private interment will be at a later date.
